Volunteer Information

SAGA volunteers are:

  • Caring individuals interested in helping others
  • Individuals who have life or work experience with older or disabled adults
  • Individuals who can follow guidelines and instructions
  • Individuals who have the ability to exercise sound decision-making
  • Individuals who have the ability to commit to the time required

All prospective volunteers must complete the initial SAGA program application and the orientation and health screening programs provided by SAGA and/or their partners.

Upon completion of the application process, volunteers will be required to successfully complete an initial training and then only 12 hours of continuing education on an annual basis. Volunteers may be required to complete additional hours of specialized training for individual cases involving special needs services.

Training for the program will be conducted by local professionals in the fields of health, mental health, law and social services.

Program Training Application

Prior to beginning training, volunteers in the SAGA program are required to complete an application that includes providing three written references, authorizations for release of criminal, driving and social services histories and participating in a personal screening interview with the program coordinator/director.
